Fearrington Folk Art Show
William and I just returned from a trip to the Fearrington Folk Art Festival at Fearrington Village south of Chapel Hill, NC, where William was invited to share his birds. It was a packed weekend. Lots of friend and family from the area visited with us at the festival. And we renewed friendships we made last year at the festival and made some new ones this year. Sales were up and down for the artists, and all agreed this has been a hard year and a half thanks to a depressed economy, but the overall attitude was positive.
One of the most interesting artists was The Masking Tape Guy, Brett Schultz. Here’s his blog post with a picture of his 3-D portrait of debut Barbie. This is great stuff, and I wish you could have seen his wall of 3-D portraits that ranged from Jack and Jackie Kennedy to Yoko Ono and John Lennon and their famous bed interview, to Benjamin Franklin and Edgar Allen Poe with Raven. Fabulous art! http://maskingtapeguy.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html.
Suggestion: Put the Fearrington Folk Art Show on your calendar for the thir weekend in February 2011. Double check the dates later at www.fearrington.com.
Exercise: Write about a character who’s making something.
More challenging exercise: Write about a character making art with unique materials.

Thanks for the compliments! Hope to see ya next year!
