It’s Never Too Late
I’m still here in Midlothian, VA, and yesterday and today I’ve met some remarkable students. Tonight I went to a reception for a photography exhibit of photos of “mature” creative women. Photographer Carlie Collier said “Age was the horse they rode into their creative lives.” One of those women, Frances Wessells, photographed by Collier, told the photographer, “A creative woman is in her prime as long as she’s creating.” Truer words were never spoken!
Scene Storm Word List plucked from the Holiday Inn Conference Center room directory:

alarm

Hook-up! Wow, those Holiday Inn Conference rooms have gone ‘all purpose’!
Thank you so much for coming…I have to admit, I teared up a bit (ok, a lot) during your daytime reading at John Tyler…and that is not something I do. The image of the little girl holding her grandmother’s hand as mom leaves to preach…and that wasn’t the only scene, either.
Thanks also for sharing your personal story with such honesty. I cleaned houses for some years too, and went to grad school while working, babysitting all the little terrors in the neighborhood (including my own) and trying to study. This was not nearly as much fun as it sounds.
About your mistakes becoming more important than your successes…I have to keep repeating that to myself. I should treasure my mistakes more.
Thank you again for coming and being so inspiring.
Suzanne, You are so welcome. I enjoyed my time at the John Tyler Literary Festival. Sounds like we have a lot in common!
